Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

When looking back at my preliminary task i feel like i have progressed and learnt a lot in media terms and technology. I think i have improved in skills in general, from doing media studies as a GCSE i already knew some skills within media technology but after doing a bigger project which needs a lot more skills to complete i believe that my skills have ranged a lot more in different areas. I already knew simple ways to edit on Imovie but after editing all of the preliminary task and our OTS i am now a lot more confident and imaginative as well as quick at editing in general and i think each time i have created a project the editing has gotten better in different ways, the running of the clips has become more smooth and all fitted in to each other well. I have learnt a lot of media terms that i did not know before and feel a lot more confident knowing what they are.

i think my knowledge has improved through out the two projects of general media knowledge and i have also learnt even more of a range on ways of filming and effects whilst editing and could now edit confidently due to being the editor for our project. I have also realized how long things can take to do such as uploading which is usually longer than expected and in the industry this could be a huge problem as if someone was trying to produce a film and have a date they would like it to be released such as before the awards season they will have a timescale that it needs to be produced in and this will have no acceptions, if there is a problem in production or within the editing which causes time loss it could effect the quality of the film and how well the overall production turns out to be and could loose a lot of money.

We had constraints of getting permission to have actors and locations in the shots which we overcame by getting written permission. In the industry they would have to do the exact same thing and also have a written and signed contract for the actors/actress's which they must have an amount of time that they will need the actor/actress for which will not be able to be changed unless there is a serious curcumstance why and also the contract would hold a lot stricter rules than we had within ours.

With more time i would have gone back and filmed more camera angles to create more of a interesting and different effect as our feedback group commented on there being a lot of usual shots and not as many canted angles which are common for the Noir genre. In the industry if the producer and editors wished they changed an aspect of the film that they became unhappy with and it had already been distributed and viewed it would not be possible for them to do so which could reflect on them badly as a producer or editor for not spotting or realise the area in the film is incorrect or does not work and their name could be remembered for doing this which in the film industry could effect their future planned productions.

Also i would have created a more suited costume for Ethan (Johnathan) so it fitted in to the Noir genre better. Such as him wearing an old suit or blazer and a smart hat and shoes but cost being one of our restrictions made it not possible for us to do this. Also i would have chosen to take longer to film to get the acting at a higher standard and to get all of the shots in a good time frame but as we had a limited amount of time to finish our whole OTS due to our first OTS being accidentally deleted this proved difficult. I think if we created music for the titles instead of it being silent it would have created more tension and mystery to the ending of our OTS, also most Noir films have a loud sound or music from the timing they were produced and i think if our OTS has a similar sound added in for the titles it would fit in to the genre more.

I would have made Ethan the actor for Jonathan walk quicker as our feedback group said it took a long time for him to walk and we we're unable to cut any more of it out as it wouldn't have ran smoothly. Also i would take more time to write the script so it was longer and ran throughout the OTS more rather than just in a section and also so that it explained more of the story line to the audience and more about the relationship between him and Scarlet.

Our OTS was successful which we found out from our feedback group but i think we could have created a more successful and challenging audience response by having another hook rather than just the death at the end, also by creating more of a tense atmosphere by the characters not being as connected and romantic so there was not a softer edge to it which males may have preferred whereas there is a flip side that it could be more pleasing for females if they acted more in love but as a genre i think that the idea that there is not that soft side of the story would be more successful as it is not expected in a Noir film.
