How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our OTS represents social groups in mainly a positive way. The social groups that appear in our OTS are;

*18 - 25 year old's

The social group of this age is shown in our OTS by the generic pleasures we included within it to appeal and attract our audience. The plot/narrative, romance, element of crime and mystery was included to meet their needs.

*Females

The female social group is included in our OTS by having one of our main characters as a young female which we chose to include to broaden our audience to females as well as males. Also as an audience females will usually enjoy the romance story line within our OTS which was included to meet one of their main generic pleasures. Another element which a female social group would enjoy is the shots of the femme-fatal applying lipstick in the mirror as they will wonder who she is dulling herself up for and where she is going. Also our femme-fatal character is shown as an independent and strong women which a female audience is likely to enjoy as well as the idea that the male character Jonathan is trying to protect her and care for her as much as he can, even willing to get revenge on a man for apparently killing her.

*Males

The male social group is also included in our OTS by one of the main characters being a young male, we chose to include a male as in a Noir film the male character is always an important aspect and we believed our story line would work a lot better with the mysterious male character included which then inspired our idea of the story line being a romance. As an audience males will enjoy the crime aspect of our OTS as there is a gun being hidden in one of the shots which will create the mystery of why he is carry a gun around and what he's intending to do with it which could create action later on in the film. Males will also enjoy that they can relate to the character as he is shown as a usual man who is confused and caught up on a girl who brings trouble to him which they may see young women as. Also the audience would enjoy that Jonathan is shown as a dominant character with no care of who he hurts apart from Scarlet, they will also enjoy that he is trying to protect Scarlet and is intending to get revenge on the murderer.

*Working class

The working class social group is shown in our OTS through the characters we created, we wanted our story line to be natural and for our audience to be able to relate to it as they are likely to also be in the working class social group at their age. Noir films also usually contain working class characters as the genre is gritty and dark which would have not usually attracted higher class people when the genre began, we wanted to keep within the genre with our characters as we believe they are an important and iconic element to a Noir film so we chose to stick to how they have been shown as for years.
